For my birthday, Pierre and Jasmina have invited me to join them for some BodyFlying! This is basically the ability to levitate and perform skydiving style tricks in a powerful vertical wind tunnel. I have a colleague who does real skydiving, and he says this is a great and inexpensive way to practice maneauvering during terminal velocity free-fall. It was really a very sweet and unique experience to be lifted up by super strong wind. It actually feels quite tranquil despite the inevitable cheek-inflation and face deforming that goes on.
Here you can see one of us with the instructor, just above the fan, right after takeoff:
Here is Pierre, a bit higher up. Its actually quite challenging to distort one's body in just the right way so that one doesn't drift off the air cushion. The instructor is there to teach this skill and to drag him back if he is about to coast away:
Here is me -- this must be maybe 3 or 4 meters above 'ground' -- as the whole apparatus is on the roof of a shopping center its actually a few floors higher than that, but one only notices that once one gets above the railing:
